I teach yoga.. a lot, but I noticed I was starting to feel imbalanced with the lack of time I would put into my own yoga practice and exercise routine. So one way I decided to bring some self care into my life recently was to join a local gym.
My evenings after my full time job are usually pretty busy with teaching yoga, working on Integrative Nutrition Health Coach homework, Yoga Therapy homework, blogging, errands, tidying up my living space, and other commitments, sooo I promised myself that I would wake up early to get to the gym before work ((cringe)) and I told myself that I had no excuse whatsoever not to get there because the gym is only about 3 to 5 minutes away depending on if I hit a red or green light. Considering that I’m usually likely to hit the snooze button when my alarm goes off approximately 4 to 6 times before actually getting out of bed, I now have no other choice than to just get out of bed and get excited about it.
Once I get there I don’t want to leave; I feel great. I feel alive and awake and ready to start my day.
Sometimes it’s tough to get going but once you start you create the momentum to keep going. And before you know it, it becomes a habit, and this one is a happy, healthy habit.
Find a way to make exercise a priority; Any kind of exercise and figure out what works for you – the time (mornings, lunch breaks, after work, late evenings?), place (indoor, outdoor?) , and type (yoga, walking, strength training, running?.. this list can go on forever). The point is, make time for you and your health by getting active. Take a look at your schedule and find a way to fit it in.
